Description

A classic comfort food, these Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes are simple to prepare, allowing you to enjoy family time while they simmer away.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup of ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Buns for serving

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef in a skillet over medium heat until nicely browned. Drain the fat and set aside.
  2. Sauté the chopped onion in the same skillet until soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Mix together the browned beef, sautéed onions, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, mustard, salt, and pepper in the slow cooker.
  4. Set the slow cooker on low and cook for 4 to 5 hours.
  5. Check the mixture about 30 minutes before serving and stir. It will thicken as it cooks.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days; reheating can be done on the stovetop or in the slow cooker.
