Description

Juicy pulled pork made in a slow cooker, perfect for sandwich nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 to 5 pounds pork shoulder (Boston butt)
  • 1 large onion, sliced (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder or cayenne (optional)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup chicken broth or apple juice
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce, plus more for serving
  • Buns and any toppings you love

Instructions

  1. Scatter the onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Mix the dry seasonings in a small bowl, then rub them all over the pork.
  3. Place the pork in the slow cooker and pour the liquid around it.
  4. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 5 to 6 hours until it shreds easily.
  5. Remove the pork and shred it using two forks.
  6. Pour off most of the cooking liquid, but keep a little. Add the shredded pork back in with BBQ sauce.
  7. Let the pork sit on warm for 15 to 20 minutes to soak in the flavors.

Notes

Serve with coleslaw, pickles, or corn salad for a complete meal.
