Description

These crockpot baked beans are warm, filling, and packed with sweet, smoky, and savory flavors, making them the perfect side dish for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cans baked beans (about 28 oz each)
  • 6 to 8 slices bacon, chopped (or turkey bacon)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: a pinch of smoked paprika or a few dashes of hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook the chopped bacon in a skillet until browned.
  2. Add the diced onion to the bacon pan for 2 to 3 minutes until softened.
  3. Pour the canned beans into the slow cooker.
  4. Stir in bacon, onion, and the rest of the ingredients.
  5. Cook on low for 4 to 6 hours or high for 2 to 3 hours, stirring once if nearby.
  6. Leave the lid off for the last 20 to 30 minutes to thicken, if desired.

Notes

Taste the beans near the end of cooking. Adjust sweetness with vinegar or brown sugar as needed.
