Description

A comforting French Onion Butter Rice dish that offers rich flavors and a soothing experience, perfect for busy weeknights or leisurely weekends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  2. Add the rice to the saucepan with the onions and stir to coat the grains in butter. Cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly toasted.
  3. Pour in the beef broth, garlic powder, and thyme. Stir well, bringing it to a boil. Then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat and fluff the rice with a fork. Stir in Parmesan cheese if desired. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to three days. Reheat gently, adding a splash of broth if needed to maintain moisture.
