Description

A hands-off, flavorful slow cooker recipe for pulled pork featuring apple cider, perfect for busy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 lbs pork roast (pork shoulder or pork butt preferred)
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or maple syrup (optional)
  • Apple cider vinegar or BBQ sauce (optional for finishing)

Instructions

  1. Place sliced onion in the bottom of the crockpot.
  2. Season the pork all over with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Set the pork on top of the onions and add minced garlic around it.
  4. Pour apple cider into the crockpot until it comes about one third of the way up the roast.
  5. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 5 to 6 hours until pork shreds easily.
  6. Shred the pork directly in the pot or on a cutting board.
  7. Mix the shredded pork back into some of the cooking juices and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Notes

Do not rush the shredding; ensure the pork is tender and adjust flavors with apple cider vinegar or BBQ sauce as needed.
