- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups cake flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 ¾ cups sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cups milk
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 5 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk (if desired)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line standard muffin tins with paper liners.
- Whisk together the all-purpose flour, cake flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
- Cream the room temperature butter and sugar in a larger bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract until well incorporated.
- Gradually add the flour mixture and the milk in batches. Mix just until everything is combined.
- Fill the liners about 3/4 full with batter and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cupcakes for about 10 minutes in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Brush the cooled cupcakes with melted butter and dip them in a cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Beat together the softened butter and cream cheese for the frosting until fluffy. Mix in vanilla and cinnamon, and gradually add confectioners’ sugar.
- Frost the cooled cupcakes with the cinnamon cream cheese frosting.
Notes
If you forget to buy unsalted butter, using salted butter works too! A splash of almond extract can further elevate the flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge or freeze them.
