Description

A comforting Caramelized Onion Tart featuring sweet, caramelized onions, creamy cheese, and flaky pastry, perfect for gatherings and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (or tart crust)
  • 1 cup goat cheese (or cream cheese)
  • Fresh thyme for garnish (optional)
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the onions and cook until softened, about 10 minutes.
  4. Stir in the sugar, salt, and balsamic vinegar, and continue cooking until the onions are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Spread the goat cheese evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. Top with the caramelized onions.
  8. Fold the edges of the pastry over slightly to create a rustic frame.
  9. Brush the edges with the egg wash.
  10. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown, puffed, and inviting.
  11. Garnish with fresh thyme if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently in the oven to revive the puff pastry’s crispness. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses and add herbs for extra flavor.
