- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 sheet puff pastry (or tart crust)
- 1 cup goat cheese (or cream cheese)
- Fresh thyme for garnish (optional)
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat.
- Add the onions and cook until softened, about 10 minutes.
- Stir in the sugar, salt, and balsamic vinegar, and continue cooking until the onions are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the goat cheese evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Top with the caramelized onions.
- Fold the edges of the pastry over slightly to create a rustic frame.
- Brush the edges with the egg wash.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown, puffed, and inviting.
- Garnish with fresh thyme if desired and serve warm.
Notes
