Description
A nostalgic holiday treat that brings warmth and joy, these cookies are inspired by Little Debbie’s classic Christmas Tree Cake.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Red food gel
- Green sugar sprinkles
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3–5 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1–2 drops red food gel
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.
- In a stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla, mixing well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough out between parchment paper to about 1/4 inch thick. Chill for 2 hours or overnight.
- Cut out cookies using a circle cutter and a tree cutter for half the cookies.
- Place cookies on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool.
- To make the buttercream, cream together butter and confectioner’s sugar, adding heavy cream until smooth. Dye a portion red.
- Pipe white buttercream on full cookies, add red stripes, sprinkle with green sugar, and sandwich with cutout cookies.
Notes
Chill the dough to achieve the best texture. Feel free to adjust the flavorings or toppings to your preference.
